California On Alert with Incoming Heatwave

A major heat wave is setting its sights on the Golden State and emergency management officials are bracing for a scorching showdown that begins Friday and will build through Monday. Wade Crowfoot with the California Natural Resources Agency says extreme heat may be the most dangerous climate driven impact to public health.

“Obvious priority 1A in coming days is helping people keep themselves and their families safe,” said Crowfoot.

California’s Office of Emergency Services is working to increase Californians’ awareness of heat threats, how to prepare and stay cool and provide emergency alerts. They’re also looking to expand cooling center sites, retrofit buildings with air conditioning and cool roofs and broaden the use of cool pavement technology as well as tree canopies and shade structures to help Californians weather and adjust to extreme heat.
