Twenty-eight-year-old Rico Richard Leaton-Gomez was convicted in June of one count each of carjacking and assault with force likely to cause bodily harm. Last week, he was sentenced to 26-years in prison. The carjacking occurred in October of 2022 when Leaton-Gomez approached a parked truck with the 67-year-old driver inside at First and A streets. After talking to the driver about buying the truck, he went away and came back and punched him several times before pulling him out to the ground and stealing the truck.
