Sonoma County Focus – Slow Food Russian River and Farm to Pantry talk Apple Season

sonomacountyfocussquare

You can smell it in the air when apple season ripens throughout Sonoma County! Host Michelle Marques talks with Richard Murphy of Slow Food Russian River about their FREE Community Apple Press in Sebastopol, where you can take your backyard apples to be pressed into juice. The Community Press also hosts Field Trips for local students so they can learn more about where their food comes from. And with the surplus of apples in backyards and orchards, Farm to Pantry is busy gleaning the fruit so that nothing goes to waste. Michelle also chats with Duskie Estes, Executive Director of Farm to Pantry, about how her organization gets apples to local food banks where they are distributed to hungry families, and excess apples are turned into applesauce and cider. Volunteers and donations help both of these vital organizations continue their important work.
