Sonoma County Focus – YWCA Domestic Violence Awareness Month

sonomacountyfocussquare

Host Michelle Marques talks with Madeleine Keegan O'Connell, CEO of the YWCA Sonoma County, about Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the many resources available through the YWCA.

One in 4 women and one in 10 men will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes. This is a staggering number to comprehend, and yet it is an issue that is rarely spoken about, despite how common it is in our community. This October, you have many opportunities to learn more and to support organizations like the YWCA in their efforts to support and heal those who have been touched by domestic violence. The YWCA Sonoma County operates a 24-hour Crisis Hotline, which you can reach at 707-546-1234. They operate a confidential Safe House for adults and children fleeing domestic violence, and offer counseling support services in many forms. The YWCA also offers childcare services at 6 centers, including a therapeutic preschool, and will soon open a childcare center in Healdsburg.

This month you can attend a Dine and Donate night to raise funds for the YWCA on Tuesday, October 17th at Mary's Pizza Shack, and be sure to join the "Y I Run" Fun/Run and Walk at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa on Saturday, October 28th. Get details on the full list of events and resources at ywcasc.org.
