Hawkes Wine and Spirit Works Distillery

onthewineroad-2

On this show from 2-05-18 I ventured up to Alexander Valley to talk with winemaker Jake of Hawkes Wine. They were a wine grape growing family that decided it was time to start their own brand about 2002. Aside from their history, we also talk about a fundraising raffle they're involved in. Proceeds benefit wine county affordable housing. The prize in the current raffle is one anybody would enjoy. Learn more about the raffle here, WineCountryHousing.org.

Then I headed down to Sebastopol to chat with Timo and Ashby Marshall. They run Spirit Works Distillery, have made quite a name for themselves and are winning awards in the process. And they won me over. I have never been a fan of gin. Not only could I drink their gin, I actually liked it. As well as the sloe gin, vodka, wheat and rye whiskey. Their sustainable "Grape to Glass" philosophy and organic products lift the quality of their liquors beyond the norm.

I catch up with winemaker Earl Sullivan of Telaya Wine Co in Boise, Idaho. He explains how he and his wife Carrie gave up successful careers to create a family business which they can grow with their sons and extended employee family.

And I'll say goodbye to George MacLeod of MacLeod Family Vineyard. He was one-of-a-kind. He'll make you smile as he shares his take on life and the vineyards. You'll hear some of my favorite lines from him recorded in two previous interviews. Rest well, George, you deserve it.
