The Good Stuff – Cline Family Cellars
In this episode of The Good Stuff presented by the Sonoma County Winegrowers, hosts Virginie Boone and Karissa Kruse talk with Hilary Cline, VP of DTC & Marketing at Cline Family Cellars, and Tom Gendall, Director of Winemaking & Viticulture at Cline Family Cellars.
Hilary Cline joined her family’s business in 2015 on the sales team covering Northern California and Strategic Accounts across the US. Two years later, she spent time working in viticulture in Sonoma County, New Zealand and Napa. She rejoined her family in early 2019 and initially oversaw business management and development, then progressed to her current position of VP of Marketing and DTC. Hilary, along with her family members working at Cline are stewarding the future of Cline to focus on Pinot Noir, Cabernet, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc while retaining their position as a world-renowned Zinfandel producer. Hilary recently launched Gust, a small- production Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah brand, with her sister Megan, sourced from her family’s vineyards in the Petaluma Gap.
Tom Gendall was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. He worked for wineries there and in Germany before moving to California in 2011, and joining the Cline extended family in 2016. Tom believes that "if you look after the vines, the vines will look after you and produce great fruit. They will tell you what they need if you know where to look and what to look for. It's our job to interpret that information and make sure the wines achieve their very best potential."
Cline Family Cellars is a beloved Sonoma County winery rooted in passion, heritage, and a deep respect for the land. Founded in the late 1970s, Cline has long been recognized for producing expressive, approachable wines that reflect the diverse soils and microclimates of Sonoma County’s many AVAs. With a focus on varietals like Rhône classics, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay, the family-owned estate blends tradition with thoughtful innovation.

Roofing Tips of the Month
Tip #1: Look Up After Every Big Storm
Most roof damage doesn’t announce itself—it sneaks up later.
- After heavy rain or wind, walk your property
- Look formissing shingles, lifted edges, debris, or granules in gutters
- Check ceilings fornew stains or bubbling paint
Tip #2: Small Repairs Today Prevent Big Bills Tomorrow
A $900 fix today can save a $15,000 roof replacement later.
- Tiny leaks grow fast
- Flashing, sealants, and edge details fail first
- Don’t wait until water is coming through the ceiling
“Roofs don’t usually fail all at once—they fail by neglect.”
Tip #3: Know Your Roof’s Age & Warranty
Most homeowners don’t know how old their roof is or what type of roof you have—and that can cost them.
- Asphalt roofs average20–30 years
- Flat roofs often need attention sooner
- Tile Roofs need routine maintenance 50 year
- Manufacturer warranties are different from workmanship warranties
- Insurance companies care about age more than appearance
“If you don’t know how old your roof is, your insurance company definitely does.”
