At the Table – 2024 Healdsburg Wine and Food Experience

Host Clark Wolf talks with Chef Dustin Valette of Valette Healdsburg and The Matheson about the 2024 Healdsburg Wine and Food Experience, May 16th through the 19th. Chef Valette is hosting multiple events during this spectacular weekend, including a VIP lounge at Roof 106 on Saturday, May 18th, a dinner fundraiser for Maui at The Matheson on Saturday evening, and a Big Bottle Party with Chef Guy Fieri on Saturday night! The Healdsburg Wine and Food Experience celebrates the makers, including ag workers, farmers, chefs, and producers who make Sonoma County such a special place.

Clark also invites producer Michelle to the show to share portions of her interview with Grammy-award winning blues musician Christone Kingfish Ingram, who is performing at Rodney Strong Vineyards on Friday, May 17th as part of the weekend of events.

And finally, Clark and Michelle chat about the beneficiaries for the event, including Farm to Pantry, Sonoma County Fundación de la Voz de los Viñedos, and FFA Healdsburg.

Sonoma County Focus – Sonoma County Fundación de la Voz de los Viñedos Leadership Academy

sonomacountyfocussquare

Host Michelle Marques chats with Karissa Kruse, President and CEO of Sonoma County Winegrowers and Executive Director of the Sonoma County Fundación de la Voz de los Viñedos, about a very exciting opportunity for vineyard ag workers in Sonoma County. Members of the third class of the Sonoma County Fundación de la Voz de los Viñedos’ Leadership Academy will be heading to Washington, D.C. to attend the Congressional Wine Caucus as guests of Congressman Mike Thompson in June! Their flights are taken care of by Alaska Airlines, and the Foundation will cover expenses for hotels, food, and tours while in our nation's capitol. For many, this will be their first trip to Washington D.C., and for some, this will be their first time on an airplane. If you would like to help cover costs of their trip, click here to donate.

Last year, the first two classes were treated to this experience, and it was a highlight for all involved. Vineyard workers got to meet lawmakers who make policy that impacts their lives, including House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. They were proud to present wines to the bi-partisan Wine Caucus that contained the grapes they grew, tended, and harvested.

The Leadership Academy provides skills that go beyond farming, including leadership skills, public speaking, financial literacy and more. Graduates of the Leadership Academy gain so much from their experience, including promotions at their current positions, networking with other ag workers, and increased confidence in all aspects of life.

The Good Stuff – Trione Vineyards and Winery

In this episode of The Good Stuff presented by the Sonoma County Winegrowers, hosts Virginie Boone and Karissa Kruse talk with Denise Trione, Sales and Marketing Director at Trione Vineyards and Winery, as well as her husband, Kris Hicks, Vineyard Manager for Vimark Vineyard Management and Trione Vineyards and Winery. Denise and Kris talk about their developing relationship that also dovetailed nicely into their family winery. The Trione Family has been growing grapes in Sonoma County for decades, and Denise decided that she wanted to make Trione wines with a small portion of the grapes, instead of selling all of the fruit to other winemakers. Kris manages about 700 acres of grapes, including those grown by Trione and for other clients. Because of the expansion into vineyard management, they have been able to employ 60 workers year-round. Denise is very proud of their new winemaker, John Duckett, who joined Trione in 2022 after their 17th vintage. And finally, Virginie and Karissa share their Tuesday Night wine picks.

Raise the Roof with Letitia Hanke – AAPI Heritage Month and Better Invested Property Management

In today’s episode, Letitia Hanke, CEO of ARS Roofing and Founder and Executive Director of The LIME Foundation opens the show with details about Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. You can visit the Sonoma County Library for a whole host of events to celebrate and learn more about AAPI heritage and culture, like taking a class on origami, or learning Tai Chi. Click here for more information.

Letitia also shares tips to think about if you are considering installing solar on your roof:

1 – Inspect your roof first! If your roof needs to be replaced in the next 5 years, it is better to take care of the roof first, before installing solar. Re-installing solar is just as expensive as installing it!

2 – A roof inspection can also reveal any leaks or holes, which you want to address BEFORE sending contracters up to install solar panels.

3 – Roof waranties are voided when you have solar installed.

Be sure to attend the Bring Back the Build-Contractor Forum happening on May 29th from 5:30-7:30PM at the Sonoma Clean Power Advanced Energy Center in Santa Rosa. Network with other contractors, meet NextGen Trades Academy graduates, and learn about new green technologies to propel your business into the future. Click here for more info and to register for this FREE event!

The NextGen Trades Academy just completed their latest round of classes at Elsie Allen High School with 15 of 15 students graduating! The next open classes are August-December. Celebrate the 2023-2024 NextGen Academy graduates at the Career Fair and Graduation Ceremony at Sally Tomatoes in Rohnert Park on Saturday, July 27th from 5pm to 8:30pm. Click here for more info and to register.

Mark your calendar for the 9th Annual Believe in the Dream Gala coming up on September 12th at the Graton Event Center. Letitia thanks supporters of The LIME Foundation, including Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, ARS Roofing, Fondare Finish Construction, and Treasure House Consignment Shop.

In the second half of the show, Letitia chats with Keehay Jackson and Korin Robles of Better Invested Property Management. They share important things to consider as property owners and pitfalls to avoid. Cost cutting measures and avoiding property maintenance can prove extremely costly if major issues come up, like mold, dry rot, and leaks. You can contact Better Invested Property Management by emailing Keehay at keehay@betterinvestedpm.com or Korin at korin@betterinvestedpm.com

Tune in next month on Tuesday, June 4th at 12:30 for the next episode of Raise the Roof, featuring guest Steve Schneider with Homes 4 the Homeless.
