An 824-thousand-dollar grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission is being used to bring bike sharing to SMART Train riders. According to the “Marin IJ,” a network of “smart bikes” will be placed in SMART stations to provide riders with a way to get where they need to go. The bicycles will be equipped with a global positioning system, meaning riders will not have to return them to a fixed location. The next rider will be able to find a bike using the GPS system. Officials say 200 bikes will be distributed in Marin and Sonoma counties in late 2018 or early 2019.
