It’s official: the opening and reunification of Old Courthouse Square took place early this afternoon in downtown Santa Rosa. The square was covered with families, musicians, historians and Sonoma County residents who came to see the culmination of a year of construction and just over 10-million dollars. It was 85 degrees downtown, and the sun-drenched crowds packed the square, and listened to Santa Rosa Mayor Chris Coursey and local historian Gaye LeBaron talk about the history, and the future, of the square.. Courthouse Square is now open for business: and local businesses hope it will provide a shot in the arm for them. The square will be part of the footprint for the Downtown Market which begins this Wednesday in downtown Santa Rosa. And it will also be the meeting point for the first-ever Santa Rosa triathlon in two weeks.
