The California Democratic party is sending a loud signal that major changes are on the horizon. The delegates at the state convention in San Diego yesterday failed to endorse longtime Senator Dianne Feinstein for reelection, with only 37 percent supporting her, while 54 percent cast votes for State Senator Kevin de Leon. Analysts believe falling far short of the 60 percent needed to endorse her candidacy means the party is looking to back a candidate that is far more progressive than the 84-year-old Feinstein. Meanwhile, recent polls show Feinstein leading de Leon 46 percent to 17 percent, and she has 96 percent name recognition, while just about 30 percent know de Leon.
