Reduced Taxes on Legal Pot Establishments to Fight Black Market Competition

California lawmakers are trying to level the playing field for the state’s recreational cannabis industry. Palmdale Assemblyman Tom Lackey says they want to make legal businesses more competitive.

The bipartisan effort that launched today in Sacramento would temporarily reduce taxes on legal pot businesses to put them on par with their black market competition. The bill was introduced by Republican Lackey and Oakland Democrat Rob Bonta. State and local taxes on recreational pot can reportedly be as much as 45-percent.
