Greg Reynolds, President of the Robert Ferguson Observatory at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park is hosting a day of viewings this Saturday, August 4th, so he joins KSRO President Michael O’Shea (who is also a volunteer docent) in studio to speak about how unknown the observatory truly is in the local community, the purpose of the institution, an in-depth discussion about Mars and what can be viewed presently from Earth, the astronomical highlights that can be viewed this time of year through the telescopes, and the upcoming Solar and Star Parties this Saturday:

On Saturday, August 4th, the FREE Daytime Solar Party begins at 11am with Solar telescopes set up so you can safely look at and listen to our favorite star, the Sun.

That same evening at 8pm, the Star Party is only $3 per person and presentations begin on astronomical topics that are given in the classroom throughout the course of the evening. Starting at dusk, the Observatory’s three main telescopes are open for your viewing. Docents set up additional telescopes in front of the building. Friendly and knowledgeable docents are available to answer your questions as well.

— Please arrive within 3 hours after start time to ensure that they remain open for you.
