A renowned local dog rescuer has died at the age of 57. The Press Democrat reports that Colleen Combs, who started the Green Dog Rescue Project ten years ago with Chef Douglas Keane, died on March 11th in Fairfield with family believing she took her own life. It’s believed this occurred in the midst of financial stress that was put on Green Dog Rescue as well as her other business, King’s Kastle, a dog daycare and boarding destination. She is survived by her partner, Shelli Byers, as well as their two children, four grandchildren, and two brothers.
