Three Bay Area Counties Move to Orange Tier

Marin, San Francisco, and Santa Clara counties are now in the Orange Tier on the state’s coronavirus tier list. All three counties moved into that tier yesterday, and more capacity restrictions will be eased up at various businesses. The changes are expected to take effect today. Among the changes include increased capacity at most indoor businesses, while wineries, breweries and distilleries can reopen indoors at 25-percent.

Meanwhile, Napa County is on track for the Orange Tier on the state’s coronavirus tier list if they maintain their numbers. That is what health officials told the Board of Supervisors in an update yesterday. Napa has been well within the state-adjusted coronavirus case rate per 100-thousand residents for over seven days. If the numbers maintain for another week, the county could be in the Orange Tier by next Tuesday.

The situation is not as rosy for Sonoma County. Two of the three metrics used in the roadmap for reopening have Sonoma County in the Orange Tier. But it’s our new cases per 100,000 residents per day case rate that is holding us back. Though that number has been steadily dropping in the past couple of months, our new cases per 100,000 per day is at 6.2 — it needs to be below 4 for the Orange Tier. The state average is 5.1.
