COVID-19 is Sixth Leading Cause of Death in Sonoma County

Preliminary data shows that Covid-19 is the 6th leading cause of death in the county in 2020.
Health officials released the top 5 causes of death last year as cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, stroke and unintentional injury. What was troubling was the noted spike in overdose deaths, a total of 142, reaching 78-percent above the three-year average from 2017-2019. Of those deaths, at least 102 were due to opiates, and 92-percent were linked to the drug Fentanyl.
