The fire weather watch has been upgraded to a Red Flag Warning for most of Sonoma County and the North Bay. It will be in effect at 5 p.m. this afternoon through tomorrow morning. Meteoroligst with the National Weather Service Roger Gass explains the systems involved.
“A surge of upper level moisture is approaching from our south throughout the day today, especially this afternoon. And an upper level system approaches from the west,” Says Gass. “As the two combine, we could see some high based thunderstorms develop across the north bay later today and into the overnight hours tonight.”
Biggest risk for fire in the North Bay will be in both the mountains and valleys. The red flag was issued because of the possibility for dry thunderstorms later tonight.
