About 70,000 Sonoma County Residents Will Be Eligible for Booster Shots

Less Sonoma County residents than estimated will be eligible for the Pfizer Booster Shot. The CDC signed off on a third dose just before midnight. It’s will be for those 65 and older, and adults 18 to 64 with certain medical conditions. However, the CDC voted against recommending a booster shot for those ages 18 to 64 who were at greater risk because of their occupational or institutional settings, such as health care workers and caregivers. That means that those who would be eligible to receive a booster shot in Sonoma is now about 70,000 instead of 135,000. The recommendation only applies to those who received the Pfizer vaccine.

As for action from the state, Governor Gavin Newsom is releasing a COVID-19 action plan today for distributing coronavirus booster shots.   Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly says they are ready to start rolling out booster shots.

“Roughly six and a half million individuals over the age of 65 who have received their vaccinations are now approved to get their third shot,” said Dr. Ghaly.

Dr. Ghaly says California is now the most vaccinated state with lowest transmission rate in the nation.  This plan also includes steps for administering vaccinations to children under 12-years old.  That’s expected to happen next month.
