A South Carolina man has been arrested after trying to break into a Petaluma residence. Early Tuesday morning, Petaluma Police got a call from a resident in the 500 block of Jade Street, reporting an unknown male subject was trying to enter their home. The subject, later identified as 41-year-old Perry Backman, had reportedly jumped into their backyard and was trying to open the rear door. The resident confronted Backman and told him to leave, or he would call the police, but he said that he didn’t care and continued to try to access the occupied residence. Backman fled after unsuccessfully opening the door and a responding K9 officer located and detained him. After being identified by the resident as the prowler, Backman was arrested.
