Death row inmates from San Quentin are moving to other prisons. An initiative approved by voters in 2016 said it would speed up executions. It also said inmates can move away from death row. Governor Newsom placed a moratorium on executions two years ago, which also shut down the execution chamber at the prison. The Death Penalty Information Center says the state’s last execution at the prison was in 2006.
