Local advocates are reminding students to apply for financial aid. The number of students applying to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and the California DREAM Act is down 25-percent this year. The largest drop in applications is among seniors from lower-income families. A Sonoma Valley High School senior, Heidi Zaragoza, told The Press Democrat that the pandemic made it difficult to plan her future. A Bay Area nonprofit, 10,000 Degrees, is helping local students like Heidi apply to colleges and scholarships.
