Fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear a mask in most of Sonoma County’s indoor public spaces. If you are not vaccinated, you still need to wear a mask indoors. The statewide mask mandate, which the county is aligned with, was dropped for fully vaccinated people at midnight. There are exceptions, including when riding public transit, and when visiting schools, nursing homes, and jails. Despite the change in masking rules, Sonoma County Communications specialist Ted Appel stressed on The Drive that the surge and the pandemic are not over.

“Case levels are now back to where we were right before New Year’s Eve,” said Appel. “If they drop at the same levels they increased, we still have several weeks to go before transmission levels recede to where they were before the Holiday Surge started after Thanksgiving.”

Yesterday, there were nearly nine-thousand active coronavirus infections in Sonoma County. That’s about 800 fewer cases than Monday.
