Sonoma County is dropping its bid to turn the former Sears in Downtown Santa Rosa into its new government headquarters. County Administrator Sheryl Bratton has directed staffers to shift their focus toward redeveloping the county’s existing 83-acre campus in northern Santa Rosa. Officials spent eight months considering buying and transforming the former Sears into a new government headquarters, but the cost and other issues got in the way. After failing to come to an agreement, the Board of Supervisors delayed approving the $21-million purchase of the old Sears property, twice.
