Despite backlash from the local LGBTQ-plus community, comedian Dave Chappelle will be performing in front of a sold-out Luther Burbank Center For the Arts crowd. The venue will be honoring its contract for Chappelle’s four sold out shows there this week. An online petition was started last week, urging the Luther Burbank Center to cancel the shows because of Chappelle’s jokes about the transgender community in his Netflix special “The Closer.” Last week, during a show in Minneapolis, he called protesters outside the venue “transgender lunatics,” sparking more controversy. Chappelle’s first of four performances in Santa Rosa is at seven o’clock tonight.
