The SMART Train is celebrating five years of service today. Since the start of service on August 25, 2017, SMART has carried more than 2.4 million passengers, over 270,000 bicycles, and 9,400 mobility devices. They’ve also rebounded from the pandemic with ridership this past July over 800-percent greater than ridership from the low point of the COVID-19 shutdown. To celebrate its 5-year anniversary, today SMART staff will be on trains passing out commemorative T-shirts to passengers.
