If you haven’t gotten the updated version of the COVID vaccine, now is the time to get the shot. Local health experts are warning that new coronavirus subvariants may lead to a winter surge in Sonoma County. Two subvariants of the BA-5 omicron subvariant now make up just over eleven-percent positive COVID-19 cases in the country. UC Berkeley infectious disease expert Dr. John Swartzberg told the Press Democrat that the two subvariants “could likely contribute to increased problems for the late fall and winter.” Experts urge you to get the updated version of the coronavirus vaccine in order to help prevent a surge in the coming months. As of Monday, the CDC says Sonoma County has about eight daily COVID-19 cases for every 100-thousand residents.
