Another Severe Storm Brings More Flooding and Worries Along the Russian River

Another severe round of weather is hitting the Bay Area. Experts say today’s storm will be a Level Three, down from the historic Level Five last week. Not only is it bringing heavy rain, but powerful winds too. In fact, the National Weather Service warns winds could get up to 60 miles an hour in the valleys, and up to 80 miles per hour along the coast and highest peaks. That means the roads will be especially dangerous, with more trees and power lines expected to fall.

With the storm, Sonoma County is bracing for flooding along the Russian River. The flow of water will impact some homes and businesses, even cut off access roads.  Many in Guerneville have been stacking sandbags while hoping they don’t have to evacuate. The Russian River at Guerneville is expected to peak at 32 feet between 2 and 4 AM tomorrow morning. The severity of flooding has significantly decreased from the projections offered last week. However, fifteen evacuation zones are still under evacuation warning along the Russian River from Highway 101 just south of Healdsburg to Jenner.
KSRO’s Michelle Marques and Larry Olson spoke with National Weather Service Meteorologist Brayden Murdock on the latest with the forecast and the Russian River.
