The commercial and recreational Dungeness crab seasons will ramp up in the next few days. At 8:01 a.m. this Saturday, recreational crabbers along the California coast can start using traps. At the same time this Sunday, the 50-percent trap reduction for the commercial fishery will be lifted. The restrictions were lifted after officials with the Department of Fish and Wildlife determined that most humpback whales have completed their migration south, therefore lowering the chances of entanglement in fishing gear.
