More Rain for the Weekend; Russian River May Reach Flood Stage Sunday Morning

Thousands across the Bay Area are rethinking their weekend plans. The rain returns this morning but will be stronger tomorrow, putting every community at risk of flooding. Forecasters say San Francisco and the East Bay are most in danger, but it won’t just be wet. Brace for winds to top 40-miles an hour, meaning more downed trees and possible power outages. There’s also a high surf warning in place, with 20-to-30-foot waves expected.

The Russian River in Guerneville is expected to rise above its flood stage Sunday morning. That’s according to updated projections from NOAA’s California Nevada River Forecast Center. The river is projected to reach its flood stage of 32-feet at seven o’clock Sunday morning, then peak at 32-point-three-feet at eleven o’clock that morning. The river should go back below flood stage at about five p.m. The graph is continuously being updated and may change again.
