Flags are being lowered across the state today to honor victims of a mass shooting in Southern California. Ten people were killed and ten others wounded Saturday night in a dance studio near Los Angeles. The gunman opened fire about an hour after a Lunar New Year festival ended. Police say he took his own life yesterday inside a van, about 30 miles from the scene. No word yet if this is a hate crime but one community leader thinks it may be related to a domestic dispute. Governor Newsom offered his condolences and said, “California will continue to lead the charge to end the epidemic of senseless gun violence.”
The Bay Area is on alert following a mass shooting in Southern California. San Francisco Mayor London Breed started Chinatown’s celebration yesterday with a moment of silence for the victims and their families. Police say they will increase patrols in the Chinese community and throughout the city in the coming weeks. Same in San Jose and Oakland for new year events.
