Expect slower economic growth in Sonoma County for 2023. At the Sonoma County Economic Development Board’s 2023 State of the County Conference, UCLA Economist Dr. Jerry Nickelsburg cited labor woes, inflation, and interest rate hikes for his conclusion. However, Nickelsburg does not see signs of a recession in 2023, citing the strength of the economy and signs of recovery. The real GDP grew by 2.9 percent in Sonoma County in 2022. Unemployment in Sonoma County was at 2.5 percent for the month of December. It was 4 percent across the state.
