California Bill Look to Protect Laid Off Workers

There’s a new effort to protect some Californians who get laid off. A bill aims to expand coverage to contract workers under the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. It would also require companies to give 90 days notice so people could start job hunting sooner. Right now, businesses that cut more than 50 jobs must tell employees two months in advance or give them 60 days worth of wages.
