Paths to Tahoe Likely Plugged with Snow for Nearly a Week

If you are planning to go to or leave the Lake Tahoe area, you are probably out of luck for the next five to six days. Another winter storm is pounding the region, likely forcing the closure of mountain passes in the Sierra. Carson Pass near Kirkwood could see more than eight feet of snow in the coming days. The Ebbetts, Sonora and Tioga mountain passes are also forecast to receive more than eight feet of snow. Donner Summit could receive five to six-and-a-half-feet of snow, and Echo Summit could get between two and two-and-a-half-feet of snow. The storm that arrived Thursday afternoon is bringing rain to communities below seven-thousand-feet, which includes most towns around Lake Tahoe. There are concerns about snow melt causing flooding and roof collapses.
