Sonoma County Takes Step Towards Opening Homeless Encampment

Sonoma County’s plans to open a managed homeless encampment in northern Santa Rosa are getting closer to becoming a reality. The county has filed a permit application for an emergency housing site in a parking lot on its government campus. It would have a capacity for 90 tents, each with one bed. The site would be permitted for up to six months if it’s approved by the county planning department. It would be the first time Sonoma County sanctions a managed outdoor homeless housing site. Its primary goal is to clear out the growing homeless encampment on the Joe Rodota Trail in west Santa Rosa.
