Healdsburg Logging Operations Facing Large Fine

A man with a logging operation in the hills west of Healdsburg is facing a $251-thousand fine for alleged water quality violations. Ken Bareilles is accused of not managing erosion and runoff on the land during a winter storm more than a year ago. The logging operation is near the headwaters of Felta Creek, which is home to endangered coho salmon. Critics believe the logging operation damaged the creek. The North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board wants to fine Bareilles 251-thousand and has filed an administrative civil liability complaint against him. But, Bareilles is planning to contest it. A hearing is scheduled to be held in Santa Rosa on June 15th or 16th.
