Homeowners who missed the deadline for paying property taxes could be eligible for grants. Monday was the deadline to pay in Sonoma County to avoid having delinquent property taxes, and avoid additional penalties. Payments made from here on out will come with a ten-percent penalty added on. But, the Sonoma County Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office is informing homeowners who missed the payment deadline of a possible solution. This year, the California Mortgage Relief Program raised the limit for assistance with delinquent property taxes from 20-thousand-dollars to a maximum of 80-thousand-dollars per household. Officials hope putting a higher cap on property tax assistance will widen the safety net for more struggling homeowners.
