There’s a new effort to fight California’s opioid epidemic with education. Lawmakers took up a bill yesterday to require schools have a plan for student overdoses. That could include training staff to give the reversal medication Narcan. The bill is called “Melanie’s Law,” named after a 15-year-old girl who died in her school bathroom last fall of a suspected fentanyl overdose. If the bill passes and is signed, it would begin next year.
