California Auditing Housing Efforts Amid Rising Homelessness

Why is homelessness getting worse and not better in California? That’s what a bipartisan group of California legislators are asking. The state has spent over $20-billion on the issue since 2018. However, over that time, homelessness in the Golden State has increased by over a third with over 172,000 Californians experiencing homelessness this year. An audit has been approved and will look at as many as five state homelessness programs. Project Homekey will likely be one of the programs under review. The audit is expected to be completed by October.
