Should Sonoma County Raise Taxes to Fight Climate Change?

Sonoma County is considering raising taxes to help fight climate change. The County’s Regional Climate Protection Authority may put a tax measure on the November 2024 ballot that would fund climate mitigation and adaptation projects. Sonoma County is looking to reach its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. The county wants to increase funding to 13 key strategy areas to achieve that goal. They include all-electric building, increased carbon sequestration, a resilient energy grid and zero waste. A virtual public meeting about the proposal will be held at six p.m.
