Three local projects are set to get nearly $15-million in funding for environmental projects. Vice President Kamala Harris announced the Department of Commerce recommended funding for the Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District, the Greater Farallones Association and the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians of Stewarts Point Rancheria. Gold Ridge will get $8.4-million for Coho salmon restoration at seven sites in two high-priority tributaries in the lower Russian River watershed. The Greater Farallones Association will get nearly $5-million to restore bull kelp at four locations along the northern Sonoma County coastline in Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. And Kashia will get $1.4-million to restore the abalone population on their ancestral lands. All of these were announced as part of the Biden Administration’s Climate-Ready Coasts initiative.
