Jury deliberations are now underway in the trial of Katie Sorenson, the woman accused of faking a kidnapping attempt at a craft store Petaluma. The jury will decide if Sorenson, a former Sonoma resident, truly believed a couple was trying to kidnap her one and four-year-old children in December of 2020. Their other option is to rule that she knowingly lied, which would make her guilty of filing a false police report. Sorenson posted an Instagram video of her describing the alleged kidnapping attempt, which was viewed more than four-million times. Prosecutors say she fabricated the whole story to grow her social media following. She’s facing up to 18 months in jail if convicted as charged.
