Starting today, CAL FIRE will require new burn permits for people living in six northern California counties, including Sonoma, Lake and Napa. Burn permits are available for free online. But, property owners must submit an application and watch a short educational video first. The permits will be valid for one year, through April 30th of next year. Permits are required for people burning materials in State Responsibility Areas. Those are jurisdictions where CAL FIRE is responsible for fire prevention and suppression.
