A new taxing district may be coming to downtown Santa Rosa. The city council took the first step in forming a new financing district by passing a resolution of intention. This new district would use a portion of property taxes to pay for infrastructure improvements, new housing, and other projects. The city insists that it will not increase property taxes or impose any new taxes. The proposed new district would be the area just west of Railroad Square to Brookwood Avenue, and from College Avenue south to Highway 12. The resolution that was passed is just the first step in a long process.
