Toll for Highway 37 Comes Closer to Becoming Reality

State and regional transportation officials are proposing a toll for Highway 37. The toll would help pay for a planned series of short and long-term improvements to the road between Sears Point and Mare Island, which has been damaged by flooding and burdened by heavy traffic. The toll revenue would help fund adding a lane to alleviate congestion, and eventually elevating the highway to protect it from storm and tidal surges. Widening the road is expected to cost $430-million. Work is expected to start in 2025 and finish in 2027. The electronic toll stations would start with bus service and a low-income discount program.
