Local homeless service providers are criticizing a new funding process. The Press Democrat reports that several service providers have a problem with Continuum of Care’s new funding and evaluation committee. They say the process for submitting project funding to the committee was “disorganized, lacked the information necessary to make important funding decisions and overall was disappointing.” They say the committee lacked knowledge to make these decisions. The group also says that some committee members made unannounced site visits to some providers and not to others. The Continuum of Care board is set to consider the committee’s recommendations today on $6.7 million for the next fiscal year. Proposed funding includes renovations at the county’s largest homeless shelter, street outreach to homeless youth, and a safe house for homeless victims of domestic violence.
