Valets Sue Bohemian Grove Over Labor Practices

Three valets are suing Bohemian Grove. SF Gate reports that the three who worked for the infamous camp in Monte Rio for years have submitted a complaint alleging unfair labor practices. Complaints include “nonstop” 16-hour work days, no lunch or bathroom breaks, not paying minimum wage or overtime, and falsifying payroll records. The complaint also describes other aspects of working there including employees not being allowed to accept tips.

Sam Singer, a spokesman for Bohemian Grove, released this statement.

“We are aware that a lawsuit has been filed by three individuals who were employed by one of camps in the Bohemian Grove making allegations about the manner in which they were paid in past years for their work at this particular camp.

Although the Club has not been served with this lawsuit, we have reviewed the allegations and it is clear the claims appearing in the lawsuit are brought by individuals who were never employed by the Bohemian Club and therefore the Club should not be a party to this action.

We believe these three individuals know full well they did not work for the Club and that this lawsuit is a transparent attempt to drag the Club into their individual circumstances. The Club will vigorously defend itself in this action, as it would in any other meritless lawsuit.

The Bohemian Club has always valued and respected its employees, and that includes our commitment to full compliance with all applicable wage and hour laws and regulations.”

Bohemian Grove was founded over 150 years ago and is known for its secretive summer retreats involving several male elite figures.
