Washington State Passes California for Most Expensive Gas

California no longer has the most expensive gas in the nation. That not so wanted distinction now belongs to Washington state. The average price of a gallon of regular gas in Washington is up more than 30 cents in the past month. Data that goes back to 2005 shows Washington has never had the nation’s most expensive gas price, until now. Today, Washington is averaging $4.94 per gallon. California is averaging $4.85. And, third-place Hawaii is averaging $4.72. Sonoma County is outpacing every state with an average of $4.96 per gallon. That’s up a cent from Wednesday but is two cents less than a week ago.
