Man Takes Plea Deal in Case Involving Shooting at a Deputy

A man is facing up to 21 years in prison after he was convicted of shooting at a Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputy in downtown Sonoma. Nathan Smart and the deputy shot at each other last October. Smart plead no contest to one count of assault on a police officer with a gun. The 43-year-old man was initially charged with 14 counts, including attempted murder, but came to a plea agreement. He will be sentenced on July 14th.
