A former employee of the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District is accusing the district of racial discrimination. The 64-year-old Black man worked as a custodian for 25 years and retired two years ago. In a lawsuit filed earlier this month, he says the district chose not to promote him several times due to racial and age discrimination. The man says he was a night shift custodian and was denied a daytime position after applying ten different times. Instead, he claims, the jobs went to younger, less experienced applicants who weren’t Black. He claims the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District violated the California Fair Employment and Housing Act by denying him a promotion.
