The former Sonoma woman who told police a fake kidnapping story will spend 30 days in jail. Katie Sorenson was also sentenced to 60 days on work release Thursday. In late 2020, Sorenson, who is white, claimed a Latino couple tried to kidnap her two young kids while she was shopping at a Michael’s arts and crafts store in Petaluma. Sorenson’s recounting of the events, which later turned out to be made up, went viral on Instagram.
