The Golden State is updating its opioid plan to include the growing threat of the street drug tranq.  Just months after California released a comprehensive plan to combat the overdose crisis, Governor Gavin Newsom says he’s worried about the dangers of fentanyl mixed with the veterinary tranquilizer xylazine.  Newsom and legislators are trying to make naloxone more widely available to reverse fentanyl overdoses, but the treatment doesn’t always work if the person has also taken tranq.  California health officials say the state is adapting its response to treat tranq and other drug overdoses.
